77th Independence Day: MLA Mhonbemo Humstsoe hoists National Flag in Wokha, presents District Awards

Amidst patriotic fervour, Wokha District commemorated the 77th Independence Day with grandeur and significance. The local ground in Wokha came alive as citizens gathered to honour the occasion, with MLA Government of Nagaland, Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe, gracing the event as the esteemed special guest.

The ceremonial event witnessed the hoisting of the National Flag by the MLA, accompanied by a resounding Rashtriya Salute. An inspection of the parade and the delivery of an inspiring Independence Day speech followed suit. Further affirming their commitment to a drug-free Nagaland, a pledge was administered by the Chief Guest.

Among the highlights of the program were the district awards conferred upon deserving individuals. Acknowledging their remarkable contributions, the esteemed chief guest felicitated nine recipients with the prestigious Wokha District Awards 2023.

The recipients of the Wokha District Award 2023 included Nupahoto K. Aye and Chenithung, Forest Guard, Doyang Beat, Wokha Forest Division; Yanathung Ngullie, Un-armed Branch Sub-Inspector (UBSI); Mhabemo Patton, Junior Engineer, Power Department, Wokha Electrical Division.

District Commendation Awardees were Nchumbeni Ezung, CHO Changsu, Health and Wellness Centre (HWC); Z. Obed Lotha, UDA, EAC Office Changpang; Benjamin Kikon, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Special Branch Wokha; Abemo Ezung, Graduate Teacher (Science), Govt. Higher Secondary School, Wokha; Renchio, LDA cum Computer Assistant, District Welfare Officer (DWO) Wokha.

The parade procession was impeccably led by Parade Commander Akihito X Sumi, NPS, Assistant Commandant 7th Nap, and Parade 2i/c ABI Temsumongba, RI DEF Wokha. Diverse contingent groups, including DEF Wokha, 7th NAP, Home Guard & CD, Ex-Servicemen, NCC units from various educational institutions, Bharat Scouts & Guides, Fernbrook School, and Fernbrook Band Party, participated with enthusiasm.

Cultural performances adorned the event, with enthralling folk songs presented by the Humtsoe Women Cultural Troupe and Lakhuti Women Cultural Troupe. Adding to the vibrancy, a captivating drill was showcased by the students of Bethsaida School Wokha, while an instrumental piece resonated through the venue, played by DYRO Wokha, K Libemo Jami.

As a fitting conclusion, the chief guest inaugurated stalls set up by various departments, showcasing their initiatives and services. The spirit of unity and camaraderie was further celebrated with a delightful lunch hosted at the Deputy Commissioner’s official residence.

This event stands as a testament to Wokha District’s unwavering commitment to patriotism, community recognition, and collective growth.
