78th Independence Day Walkathon and ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign held at Medziphema

Medziphema: 500-1000 saplings like medicinal plants, fruit trees, and flowering trees planted

Medziphema District Administration and 7th Assam Rifle, Gaspani organised a walkathon to commemorate India’s 78th Independence Day to encourage the unfurling of the national flag at every home under “Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign at Medziphema sub-division on 13th August 2024.

The walkathon was flagged off by ADC, P James Swu begins at 7:00 am from Medziphema local ground to the ADC office Medziphema to promote awareness about the national flag.

The walkathon was led by ADC, P. James Swu and Lt Col Anthony 7th AR Battalion Gaspani. All town councillors, volunteers, representatives from schools, offices, Dobashis, 7th Assam Rifles participated in the walkathon.

As part of “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” or “Plant for Mother” campaign a mass social work cum plantation drive was also conducted at Medziphema sub-division in view of the upcoming Independence Day. All the government department both state and central, educational institutions, NGOs, wards and the general public participated in the social work by cleaning all streets, market areas, and surroundings. The Medziphema administration and town council also provided assistance in the mass social work.

Medziphema sub-division began its plantation drive where government departments, all schools, local bodies and public came forward and planted thousands of saplings in all designated wards and zones, ADC office, government offices, schools and on the roadside.

Forest Range Officers, Medziphema and Piphema distributed free saplings of various species. Around 500-1000 saplings like medicinal plants, fruit trees, and flowering trees were planted. All HODs uploaded data of tree plantation undertaken in the Meri Life portal.

The event was a great success with combined efforts from both the public and the government agencies.
