79th Independence Day celebrated across Nagaland

Dimapur District celebrated the 79th Indian Independence Day with Minister for Roads & Bridges, G. Kaito Aye, gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest, hoisted the National Flag on 15th August 2025 at the DDSC Stadium, Dimapur.

The event began with a parade review by the Commissioner of Police, Dimapur. The celebration featured an inspection of the parade and address by the Chief Guest. The march past parade was commanded by Imkongsangba Jamir, NPS, Assistant Commissioner of Police (East), Dimapur, with Neichuzo Rio (ABI, CP Dimapur) as Parade 2 i/c and Havildar Khekato Sema from the Police Commissionerate, Dimapur, as Parade BHM.

The sequence of parade contingents included units from the Police Commissionerate, Dimapur, 11th NAP (IR) Battalion, Home Guard Civil Defense & SDRF, SEFTI (Forest Guard), and the Ex-Servicemen contingent.

Educational institutions also participated with pride, including NCC, Dimapur Govt. College. Govt. Higher Secondary School, Nagarjan, PM Shri Government High School, Burma Camp, Bethesda Higher Secondary School, and Zakiesato Memorial Higher Secondary School, Dimapur. The 15th Assam Rifles Band Platoon, led by RR Debbarma, added ceremonial grandeur to the event.

The presentation of awards to female achievers under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) initiative, recognized outstanding female achievers in academics and sports. The awards were presented under the visionary guidance of the District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Department of Social Welfare, and Mission Shakti, to encourage and honour young women excelling in their fields.

In academics, top scorers of HSLC and HSSLC examinations from both government and private schools were felicitated. The awardees included Veineiling (HSSLC–Arts) and Parvina Khatun (HSLC) from Government Higher Secondary School, Lengrijan and Government Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, respectively. From private institutions, Lungshiyang Nirhu (HSLC) of St. Paul Higher Secondary School and Wattula Imchen (HSLC) of Christian Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, received the honours.

In sports, SeyiekhrienoTepa was recognized for winning gold, silver, and bronze medals between 2023 and 2025 in various South Asia Sepaktakraw Championships and the Sepaktakraw World Cup Championship at both national and international levels. Hinokali was honoured for her achievements from 2020 to 2025, securing medals in the 9th Asia Pencak Silat Championship and the National Pencak Silat Championship at national and international stages.

The cultural performances included a patriotic song by GHSS Lengrijan, patriotic dances by Christian Higher Secondary School and Sargam Cultural Association, and a traditional folk dance by the Zeliang cultural troupe.

The Chief Guest also inaugurated stalls at the venue set up by the Agriculture Department, Horticulture Department, District Industries Centre, DRDA Dimapur, Nagaland Handloom & Handicraft Development Corporation (NHHDC), Dimul, Department of Co-operation, Dimapur District Legal Services Authority (DDLSA), District Hub for Empowerment of Women, (DHEW), Department of Health & Family Welfare (CMO Dimapur) and Food Safety Cell.

In the afternoon, prizes were distributed and the celebrations concluded with the Retreat Ceremony conducted by the 15 Assam Rifles.

MOKOKCHUNG:

The 79th Independence Day of India was celebrated at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung on August 15. On the occasion, Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Sharingain Longkumer, hoisted the Indian National Flag and delivered the Republic Day Speech.

The Republic Parade Contingents was led by Tizhisie Pojar, NPS, SDPO (Hq) as the Parade Commander while 2nd in Command was ABI Tekatemjen SM RHQ, DEF, Mokokchung. The Parade Contingent includes DEF Mokokchung, 2nd NAP Battalion, 13th NAP (IR) Battalion, Home Guards and Civil Defence, Ex – Servicemen, NCC Fazl Ali College, NCC Mayangnokcha GHSS, NCC GHS Dilong, Bharat Scout & Guides Queen Mary HSS, Bharat Scout & Guides Mayangnokcha GHSS, GMS, Bharat Scout & Guides ImrongUngma and 2nd NAP Battalion Pipe Band.

In recognition for their commendable service to the people, 9 individuals were felicitated with the District Award. The awardees were Temsumeren, Dobashi II (District Administration), Opangnenla Jamir, LDA (SP Office), Imsenkala, MTS (Agriculture), John Ato Kips, LDA/CA (CMO), Lanutoshi, HA (MCTE), Mayangkala Ao, ABSI (SP Office), Shiluwati, Forester-1 (DFO) and Taliwati, MTS (District Administration).

Showcasing the diversity and unity of the nation, cultural items were presented by the Eastern Nagaland Peoples Union, Mokokchung represented by Konyak Union, Mokokchung and Laxmi Narayan Gritan Mandal, Mokokchung. Entertaining the gathering, Band display from the 12 Assam Rifles and a Tug of War match was contested between the HoOs and MMC. Exhibition Stall set-up by various departments was also inaugurated by the Chief Guest.

Later in the day, an exhibition Football match and Penalty Shootout (Ladies) was played between Agri & Allied and Technical Vs rest of the Departments.

ZUNHEBOTO:

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated at the Local Ground of Zunheboto Town  on August 15.

Advisor, Minority Affairs & Sericulture, Imkongmar graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. He inspected the parade, hoisted the National Flag, and delivered the Independence Day speech, highlighting the significance of the day and the progress made by the nation.

The event featured a total of 3 parade contingents, led by Parade Commander, Assistant Commandant, Imlisunup Ao, 8th NAP BN, Naltoqa Parade with secone-in-command, UBI G. Blesto Zhimomi, Parade CHM Havildar NishetoChishi, 8th NAP BN.

The participating parade contingents were as follows: DEF Zunheboto- ABSI M. Mongothung Lotha; 8th NAP BN- ABSI KamughaSema; Ex- Servicemen- Havildar Kiyeho Sema.

The event was attended by various HoOs and their staff.

CHUMOUKEDIMA:

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour at Sammogooting Stadium, Chumoukedima on 15th August, 2025. The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of National Flag by Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Village Guards, CL John followed by Rashtriya salute and his speech.

The participating parade contingents comprised of 1st NAP Bn; 22nd Assam Rifle; Ex-service man; Patkai Christian College; Mount Mary Higher Sec School; GHSS Chumu; North Town Hr. Sec School; Bharat Scouts& Guides; Pipe Band Shokhuvi. The contingents was led by parade commander Asst Commandant 1st NAP, T. ZubenthungOvung; Parade 2nd in Command ThepfusalieAngami, ABI.

On the occassion, Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Village Guards, CL John presented an award to three Angawadi workers- Joyce Murry, Diphupar; TiakalaSwu, AWC Pimla, Dhansiripar; and Khesele Sumi, Pherima (B) Medzhiphema. They were awarded for the Best Angawadi worker under Chumoukedima District for demonstrating, dedication, commitment and active participation in mother and child care services and empowerment of women, BetiBachoBetiPadhao Mission Shakti Department of Social Welfare, Chumoukedima.

Highlights of the program included a special performance by the Pipe Band, ARTC & S, Shokhuvi; a Cultural Presentation & Entertainment by Phom Women Cultural Troupe, folk Dance; Kachari Cultural Troupe, Dhansiripar; Patriotic Recital by Easter T. Ngullie; Patriotic Dance by DMI St. Joseph Global School, Ikishe and a special presentation by 15th NAP (IR) Mahila Bn.

Later, Exhibition Stalls were inaugurated by Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Village Guards, CL John, put up by ATMA; MOVCD-NER; SHG; KVK Dmp- ICAR Research Region, Jharnapani, Medzhiphema; Mission Shakti DIMUL, Polytechnic, Seithekema. The programme concluded with the Beating of Retreat by 1st NAP Bn, Chumoukedima.

TUENSANG:

Along with the rest of Country, Tuensang celebrated the 79th Independence Day on August 15 at the Parade Ground, Tuensang with Advisor for Information & Public Relations, Soil and Water Conservation, Imkong L. Imchen as the Chief Guest.

After the parade reviewing, the Chief Guest hoisted the national flag and delivered the Independence Day speech and took the Rashtriya Salute from 14 Parade Contingent led by Parade Commander, Asst. Commandant 3rd NAP Tuensang, I Bunglang Chang.

Other highlights of the programme were a special presentation from Mutton HauTuensang Village and a patriotic song presented by GHSS Tuensang, a cultural presentation from Chang-un Cultural Club, Sangli Cultural Troupe, Khiamniungan Culture Club, Memifu Club and Tikhir Liujong Pailiu Dancing Troupe.

The Chief Guest inaugurated the exhibition stall set up by various departments namely Agri & Allied Department, Forest department, Land resources Department and Rural development Department. Later the Advisor Virtually Inaugurated the Biofertilizer Production Unit for Tuensang and Noklak District in presence of I Chubaonen Director Soil and Water Conservation Department. The Department of Soil and Water Conservation has set up Biofertilizer Production Units at 10 location across the state under the Soil Health and Fertility Scheme of PM-RKVY under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Government of India, this Production Units aims to promote sustainable Agriculture by providing indigenous, cost- effective, eco-friendly Biofertilizer and Biopesticides to farmers across the State.

At the Evening exhibition football match played between Government Departments Ladies and BYFTT, and Government Departments and Tuensang Town Baptist Pastor Union at the Loyem Memorial Astro Turf Ground.

LONGLENG:

The 79th Indian Independence day was observed in Longleng with Advisor, Treasuries and Accounts, Art and Cultural, Konngam Konyak, as the Special Guest at the Public Ground, Longleng on August 15.

Konyak hoisted the National flag, which was followed by the national anthem led by 12th NAP IR Chingtok band party. He also inspected the ceremonial parades contingent, delivered the Independence day speech and took Rashtriya salute from the 9th parade contingent comprising of DEF Longleng, 12th NAP IR Chingtok, Band party 12th NAP IR Chingtok, Village Guard Pongo, Yingli Collage, Bautung Government Higher Secondary School, St. Joseph High school and PhomLempong School, led by the parade commander, District Commandant H/G Longleng, Chibeni Ezung.

After the programme, the special guest visited the exhibition stalls setup by various departments.

The highlight of the day-long programme included a patriotic song presented by the students of JNV, demonstration of Taekwondo, and Folks dance performed by Pongching Cultural Troupe. Tug of war matches, both male and female, were played between various departments and wards representatively.

Earlier, the programme was compered by Asst. Professor, Mhayano A. Odyuo and Asst. Professor, Manngai H. Phom.

During the occasion, the Branch Manager SBI Longleng, Co-operative bank Longleng and Forest Department visited the Eastern Blind Home, Rehabilitation Centre, District Jail and Old Age home.

NIULAND:

Niuland District celebrated the nation’s 79th Independence Day at Niuland Public Ground on August 15.

Minister for Higher Education and Tourism, Government of Nagaland, TemjenImna Along, hoisted the National Flag and took the Rashtriya Salute from 4 different contingents. The contingents were led by Parade Commander, Asstt. Commandant Haiding SAP.

Along, in his Independence Day speech, highlighted various achievements, challenges and undertaking of the state government.

The celebration also witnessed special cultural presentation from Old Showba Village.

Later, the Minister inaugurated the Exhibition Stalls that were put up by various departments in the district.

In the evening session, a football exhibition match was played between Administration & Police Vs HoOs of Niuland.

MELURI:

Meluri District celebrated the 79th Indian Independence Day at Local Ground, Meluri on August 15, with Advisor, Transport and Technical Education, Temjenmenba as the Special Guest.

Temjenmenba hoisted the National Flag and took the  Rashtriya Salute from Eight parade contingents, comprising  VG, Kukhegwo , NCC ,Christian Higher Secondary School Meluri, NCC, St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, Meluri, Christian  Higher Sec School Meluri, St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, S, Pethüry School Meluri, Government Higher Secondary School Meluri and Meluri VG Pipe Band.

The Special Guest also inaugurated the exhibition stalls displayed by various government departments and SHGs.

Other highlights of the Day included a drill display by St, Xavier Higher Secondary School Meluri and Christian Mission Higher Secondary School Meluri.  Project 5.PM, enthralled the gathering with special numbers and folk tunes and dances were performed by Women Welfare Society Meluri Town & Khumiasu Village Women Cultural Troupe respectively.

SHAMATOR:

Along with the rest of the country, Shamator district celebrated the 79th Independence Day with Advisor, Youth Resource and Sports, S. Keoshu Yimchunger as the Chief Guest.

Keoshu hoisted the National Flag and the Pipe band from 43rd AR. Shamator Battalion played the magestic National Anthem, which was then followed by inspection of parade contingents.

The Chief Guest delivered the Independence Day speech, followed by March past.

The parade contingents included the DEF Shamator; Assam Rifles; Village Guard Shamator ; Shamator college NCC; GHS Shamator; Christian High School boys and girls; and St. Xavier School boys and girls.

The District Commendation Awards were given to Power Department Shamator, Athrong, SDO (C) Shamator HQ; Dr. Ezra Anar, Dental Surgeon CHC Shamato; S. Tomukam,  G/T, GMS Leangkonger Village; and W. Tsukhumla Yimchunger, LDA, DC Office Shamator. It was followed presentation of Progressive Farmers’ Award to Longkhangba from Yakor Village and Tsükhümla from Kuthur Village.

The Chief Guest also gave trucks to four educated unemployed youths namely Kirimong T. Yim. (Mahindra pickup), T. Kheapong (TATA Yodha), Supila Yimchunger (Mahindra pickup 4×4), and T. Lakiumong (Mahindra pickup 4×4) so as to create alternative employment.

Special items were presented by Teri Mitti Brothers, Girls Rosy & Hanlu, and cultural presentation by Mongtsuwong Cultural Society, Lunsoberu Club, Wongphong Peilo Areihlu, Sumi Cultural Troupe followed by inauguration and inspection of the exhibition stalls by the Chief Guest.

The Nasha Mukti Pledge was also administered by the Special Guest.

The Independence Day was also marked by a football exhibition match between Shamator Town Public Forum XI and Shamator Town students union XI, followed by Beating of Retreat.

WOKHA:

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated at Public Ground, Wokha, with Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, as the special guest.

The celebration commenced with flag hoisting across all government offices, institutions, official residences, private residences, shops and business establishments. As part of the outreach programme, visits were undertaken to the Foundling Harbour Children’s Home by Team Metamorphosis; Sub-Jail inmates by the Red Cross; and Wokha Senior Citizens Home by SBI Main Branch, Wokha.

At the Public Ground, the programme was compered by Dr Alice Kenye, Assistant Professor, and Dr Khyopenthung Tsopoe, Vice Principal, both of Mount Tiyi College, Wokha. The parade review was conducted by the Superintendent of Police, Wokha, followed by the hoisting of the National Flag, Rashtriya Salute and the National Anthem. The special guest inspected the parade contingents and delivered the Independence Day speech.

The March Past, led by SDPO Sangthing Khiam, featured contingents from DEF Wokha, 7th NAP, Home Guards and Civil Defence, and Ex-Servicemen. This was followed by presentation of District Awards, inauguration of stalls by the special guest, and a State Lunch at the DC’s official residence.

An exhibition volleyball match was played between the District Sports Council, Wokha and Heads of Departments, followed by the finals of the Inter-High School Volleyball League, prize distribution and the Beating of Retreat by DEF Wokha.

NOKLAK:

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with patriotic fervor at Noklak Headquarters, with Minister for Housing & Mechanical Engineering, Government of Nagaland, P Bashangmongba Chang, hoisting the National Flag and receiving the Rashtriya Salute from nine parade contingents. The Minister also delivered the Independence Day speech.

The parade was commanded by Assistant Commandant, 3rd NAP Noklak, Tianungba Ao, NPS, with ABSI Alimeren as Second-in-Command and Hav. H. Simon as Flag Bearer. Participating platoons included DEF & NAP, Lengniu (NVG), Choklangan (NVG), GHS (NV) Noklak Village, Christian High School Noklak, GovernmentHigh School, Noklak, Holy Angel School, St. Paul School, and Frontier Piper Band (NVG).

The celebrations featured special performances by Frontier Chords and Band of Brothers of 32 Assam Rifles with powerful and patriotic performances. Minister Chang also inaugurated the Aakhansha Haat and exhibition stalls by various government departments and SHGs.

Chang also flagged off 10 local taxis and 5 two-wheeler taxis under the Nagaland Logistic Connection – Chief Minister Micro Finance Insurance (CMMFI) scheme, aimed at boosting transportation facilities and employment for youth in Noklak.

As part of the occasion, the Red Cross Society, Noklak Branch, visited the District Hospital and distributed essential supplies to patients. The event concluded with a retreat by the Frontier Piper Band.
