7th Inter-Departmental Badminton Championship begins in Wokha

The 7th Edition of the Inter-Departmental Badminton Championship kicked off today, 18th March 2025, at the Indoor Badminton Stadium in Wokha. The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Vineet Kumar, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, who was the special guest of the day.

In his speech, Vineet Kumar, IAS, emphasized the importance of sports in promoting unity, teamwork, and healthy competition within the community. He praised the initiative of organizing such an event, stating that it provided an excellent platform for individuals from various departments to come together, build camaraderie, and engage in physical activity for overall well-being. He encouraged all participants to not only strive for victory but to also cherish the experience and values that sports impart, including discipline, perseverance, and respect for others.

The opening ceremony was chaired by K. Libemo Jami, and began with a warm welcome address by the chair. The event featured a presentation and an oath-taking ceremony led by Sedevizo Pienyu, PIS District Sports Officer of Wokha, who reaffirmed the commitment of all participants to uphold the values of fair play and sportsmanship throughout the championship.

With 42 teams from various departments across the Wokha District participating, the championship is expected to be a thrilling contest of skill, dedication, and sportsmanship. Later, The Special Guest officially declared the championship open.

The event will continue till 19th March 2025, bringing together employees from various government departments showcasing athleticism and teamwork.
