The 7th Edition of Winter Carnival cum Orchid Festival began at Carnival Village, Tepuiki River, Peren on 9th December 2024. The event is being organized by Progressive Peren (P2) and will conclude on 12th December 2024.
Inaugural guest, DC Peren, Hiazu Meru in his address expressed his happiness to see the united efforts among the residents of Peren town, for which he lauded the ADC Peren and members of Progressive Peren for bringing the citizens together. He added, tourism is one of the fastest growing industry in today’s world and he hoped to see very soon that Peren Town etch its name in the tourist map of Nagaland. In this regard, he encouraged the residents of Peren town to work in coordination with the District Administration in order to elevate Peren District to a higher level.

The event was also attended by Khrienuo C Metha, Retd. Commissioner Secy. As the honoured guest. Following the inaugural event, Hiazu Meru lit the carnival lighting to mark the opening of the Winter Carnival, while the Orchid Festival was inaugurated by Khrienuo C Metha.
Different competitive events such as ward-wise tug of war, strongman, snail eating competition and orchid competition marks the highlights on day-one.
Earlier, the inaugural programme hosted by Progressive Peren Director, Ngautube R Champak began with a blessing prayer offered by St. Paul Church Peren Town, Parish Priest, Fr. Thomas, followed by a keynote address delivered by ADC Peren, Keyirangding Hegui. A special melody was also presented by Kewizin Domta.
