Eight district presidents have demanded the revocation of the Nagaland Amateur Boxing Association (NABA) election held on August 9 and called for a fresh poll, alleging that the process was “unfair and undemocratic.”

Nagaland’s State Senior Coach, KK Nagi, said the election for new NABA office-bearers, held at the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA) office in Kohima, excluded three districts—Shamator, Tseminyu, and Tuensang—from voting, despite their associations being affiliated with NABA. “I am disappointed with this election and urge NABA to deliver justice to the three districts,” Nagi stated.

The President of Shamator District Amateur Boxing Association said their association was formed on June 19, 2025, and the official registration request was forwarded by the Deputy Commissioner (and District Sports Council Chairman) to NABA on June 22, 2025.

“Despite being accepted by the Association, Shamator was excluded from the voting list, which is totally unfair and unjust,” he said, adding that he was elected as an executive member “without my knowledge or consent, which is an insult to my integrity.”

Kiphire District President highlighted that an official meeting was scheduled for July 29, 2025, while an unofficial meeting was held between August 2–8, 2025. He said another official engagement with the Nagaland Olympic Association was held on August 9, 2025.

“I strongly support Tuensang, Tseminyu, and Shamator districts. The recent election was neither free nor fair. A fresh election must be conducted without omitting voting rights—every district has the right to vote,” he asserted.

Tuensang district representative, Yemlongchaba, narrated the difficulties they faced travelling on poor roads to Kohima for the August 9 election. Upon arrival, they learned that Tuensang, Shamator, and Tseminyu had been excluded from voting on the grounds of non-affiliation. They submitted a request to the NABA Returning Officer to postpone the election, citing irregularities in voting arrangements for eight districts—Kiphire, Tseminyu, Shamator, Tuensang, Phek, Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Mon.

However, later that evening, they received a clarification letter stating that voting was scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on August 9, but the letter itself reached them at 10:15 a.m. “We urge all districts to unite and demand justice for our rights as Nagas, and to stand together against corruption for the betterment of the sport’s future,” Yemlongchaba said.
