9 years of Modi govt: Nagaland on the right track of progress, development, says Imna Along

Kohima: Along says Nagaland is emerging as an example to world for its focus on indigenous entrepreneurship and youth welfare

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Nagaland State unit president Temjen Imna Along on Monday apprised the media of completion of nine years of the Modi government, here at BJP central office, Kohima.

Highlighting the major achievements of the Central government for Northeast, the president said from independence (1947) till 2014 the expenditure on infrastructure project was 2 lakh crore while the Modi govt has spent more than 7 lakh crore in the last 8 years in the infrastructure development of Northeast.

Mentioning that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has changed the “Look East Policy” to “Act East Policy”, he said, from education to health care, the facility to the opportunities, everything has increased exponentially. The “HIRA” model of PM Modi, has also boost the development of Northeast exponentially, added Along.

On Nagaland context, he said that Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA), 1958 has been withdrawn from 15 police stations of Nagaland.

“Our government is doing the work of withdrawing AFSPA in a phased manner,” the state BJP president said, adding that under Modi’s leadership it has worked towards achieving the goals of three P’s in Nagaland – Peace, Progress and Prosperity.

While there is a 74% reduction in terrorism incidents in 2021 as compared to 2014, Along said, the deaths of security personnel and civilians have also come down by 60% and 84% respectively.

He also mentioned that Nagaland is a leader among the North Eastern states in undertaking various citizen-centric initiatives and focusing on the development of marginalized community, adding that, Nagaland is emerging as an example to the world for its focus on indigenous entrepreneurship and youth welfare.

“Nagaland is on the right track of progress and development under the BJP government. The State has taken rapid steps towards peace, harmony harmony stability. The BJP is committed to the equitable development of all regions of Nagaland also and does not discriminate between regions of the state,” said Along and assured that the government is committed to protect the fundamental rights, culture, heritage and traditions of all tribes and communities.

“Today our government is working towards the construction of 10 tribal freedom fighter museums across the country,” informed Along.

While, in comparison to the UPA government’s, he said that funds for the development of Nagaland have been increased four times under the NDA government.

“The 15th finance Commission has given Nagaland a Grant of Rs 4,773 crore in 2022-23, which is significantly higher than Rs.1,283 crore released in 2009-10. In the year 2020-21, special assistance in the form of grants-in-aid of Rs.219.50 crore was released to the state. 3.50 lakh Jan Dhan accounts have been opened for banking and financial inclusion of people in Nagaland,” Along further informed.

The Nagaland BJP president also highlighted various other developmental and welfare schemes implemented in the state.
