The Kohima District TB Forum, District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) Kohima and Elimination of Vertical Transmission of HIV & Syphilis (EVTHS) held a meeting at the DC Conference Hall, Kohima on October 11, stated a DIPR report.
“96.27% HIV+ve transmission is through sexual route as per the data given by the District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit (DAPCU) Kohima,” stated Deputy Commissioner & Chairperson District TB Forum, Shanavas C IAS while speaking at meeting.
Sharing the alarming issue, Shanavas mentioned that the rate of HIV+ve infection starting from the age group of 15 years was a concern and asked all the concerned departments to work in close coordination, do the groundwork and create more awareness towards better results in the coming years.
He also assured to extend all support from the district administration level and encouraged them to put more efforts in their line-up activities towards the goal.
Presenting on the scenario of HIV+ve prevalence in the district, Sentimongla Tzudir DPO DAPCU informed that a total of 8769 general clients and 2144 ANC clients were tested in various Stand Alone ICTCs Kohima and Tseminyu and one Mobile ICTC in Kohima district. Out of 8769 general clients, a total of 214 clients were tested HIV+ve, which included 119 male and 95 female where 164 are from Kohima district, while out of 2144 ANC clients, a total of 27 clients were tested HIV+ve, all from Kohima district. Out of 241 tested HIV+ve ( both GC and ANC), 43.57 percent are in the age group of 25-34 years, 28.63 percent in 35-49 years, 19.5 percent in 15-24 years, 4.98 percent in 50 years and 3.32 per cent in 1-14 years of age with 96.27 percent of transmission through sexual route.
On ISHTH Campaign, Tzudir informed that the one month long ISHTH Campaign was launched on 20th July 2023 at District Jail, Kohima. During the campaign, a total of 93 clients underwent general health check up and screening for HIV and Syphilis, TB, Hep B and Hep C were conducted.

Highlighting on TB activities, Dr. Chibenthung Kithan DTO Kohima highlighted the achievement activities and current data of TB positive cases in the district. Out of 1353 clients tested for TB, 403 tested TB positive, out of which, 363 were undergoing the treatment and the others did not turn up. Dr. Kithan also shared on NIKSHAY MITRA (Donor), which means food packet for TB clients where he informed that at present 39 Donors have agreed to support 114 patients. He further conveyed on the requirement for more donors from organisations, Churches and individuals to support the TB clients.
Vituozolie Kuotsu DIS, DAPCU also gave a presentation on Elimination of Vertical Transmission of HIV & Syphilis and Imliakum Imsong PO, AHANA on AHANA.
