The District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) under Mission Shakti, Department of Social Welfare, organised a training programme in collaboration with Tikhir Baptist Biti Atukhienti and Eleutheros Christian Society at the VLO office in Wapher on Thursday.

The training focused on policy awareness, socio-cultural barriers, and women’s active participation in village development processes. The primary objective was to challenge restrictive beliefs rooted in traditional social norms and to empower women with knowledge of their legal rights so they can seek support during times of difficulty.

The session was highly interactive, with participants engaging in meaningful discussions on the practical application of legal provisions and welfare schemes in real-life situations.

Earlier in the day, DHEW conducted awareness on the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) and facilitated on-the-spot registration in Wapher village. The District Extension Officer (DEO) explained the benefits of the scheme and outlined the documents required for registration during pregnancy or after childbirth. Three beneficiaries were registered during the drive.

As part of its advocacy initiatives, the programme also addressed menstrual health and hygiene. Sanitary pads were distributed to participants, and detailed guidance was provided on maintaining proper hygiene during menstruation to prevent infections and improve overall health awareness.

The programme commenced with an invocation by Asang, women pastor of Wapher village, and concluded with a benediction offered by Phanongshu, president of the Village Level Organization (VLO).
