Deputy Commissioner of Kohima, Henok Buchem, has informed that the administration has initiated due procedures following the resignation of the Chairman and Deputy Chairperson of the Kohima Municipal Council (KMC).
He stated that the resignation letter of Deputy Chairperson Khrielievi Chusi was received on January 17, 2026. In accordance with provisions of the Nagaland Municipal Act, a mandatory 15-day notice was issued on January 27. Subsequently, on February 11, the matter was forwarded to the Department of Municipal Affairs for final orders, which are still awaited.
Buchem further informed that the resignation letter of KMC Chairman Neikhozo Suokhrie was received on February 10. A 15-day notice was issued on February 12 as required under the Act. After completion of the mandatory notice period, the administration will take the next procedural steps and forward the case to the Department of Municipal Affairs.

Both the Chairman and Deputy Chairperson cited medical grounds for their resignations.
The Deputy Commissioner clarified that once the Department of Municipal Affairs issues an official notification declaring the posts vacant, it will be up to the councillors of the Kohima Municipal Council to elect a new Chairman and Deputy Chairman in accordance with the prescribed rules.
