Central Nodal Officer for PM Shri Schools Nagaland visits state

Joint Secretary, Ministry of Defense, Government of India and Central Nodal Officer for PM SHRI Schools in Nagaland, Dinesh Kumar, IAS, visited the state on February 20 and 21 to assess the status of PM SHRI Schools in Nagaland. During his visit, he inspected PM SHRI GHSS Chumoukedima, PM SHRI GHS Naharbari, PM SHRI GHS Thahekhu, and PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya, Project Sewak, Dimapur, in the company of the Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Dimapur, the District Education Officer (DEO) of Dimapur, and officials from Samagra Shiksha.

During the State visit, Dinesh interacted with students and teachers of PM SHRI Schools and shared the vision of Prime Minister in line with New Education Policy 2020 to develop model schools in the country. He encouraged the students to work hard to succeed in life and contribute towards nation building. During his interactions, he also acknowledged the need for strengthening school infrastructure such as adequate classrooms, proper lab rooms with necessary facilities, school auditoriums, adequate number of toilets and assured the students and teachers that he would flag the matters in his report to the Government of India for support.

As part of visit, a coordination meeting with District Administration Dimapur was convened on February 20 at Deputy Commissioner’s Office Dimapur, which was attended by the DEO, Principal DIET Dimapur, SDEOs, EBRC Officials, Principals/Headmasters of PM SHRI Schools and officials from Samagra Shiksha Nagaland.

During the review meeting, the DEO Dimapur presented status report of PM SHRI Schools in the implementation Six Pillars under PM SHRI Scheme- Curriculum Pedagogy & Assessment, Access and Infrastructure, Human Resource and School Leadership, Inclusive Practices and Gender Equity, Management Monitoring and Governance and Beneficiary Satisfaction.

During the discussion, Kumar expressed concern over the decline of students’ enrolment and poor transition rate especially from class 9 to 10 in some PM SHRI Schools.  Noticing the very low pass percentage at GHS Burma Camp Dimapur, state officials were tasked with making a special visit to PM SHRI Burma Camp to carry out a diagnostic study to determine the reasons for the poor performance and to prepare an action plan for improving the school’s performance.

During the meeting,  the status of all PM Shri schools was also reviewed and Education Department officers were asked to prepare school wise action points for the requirements in these schools to transform them into center of excellence that provide quality education to the children as per the objectives of PM Shri schools.

The two days PM SHRI School visit by central nodal officer concluded with visit at PM SHRI Kendriya Vidyalaya Project Sewak Dimapur. CNO Kumar also apprised State Chief Secretary Sentiyanger Imchen, IAS at Kohima on February 21 about the outcome of two days state visit of PM SHRI Schools.
