School Education Directorate orders seizure of NCERT Grade 8 Social Science textbook

The Directorate of School Education has notified that, in pursuance of the Ministry of Education, Government of India Office Memorandum F. No. 15-5/2026-NCERT dated February 27, 2026, and the Order dated February 26, 2026 of the Supreme Court of India in Suo Moto Writ Petition (Civil) No. 1/2026, all concerned authorities must immediately withdraw a specified NCERT textbook from circulation.

The directive applies to Heads of all Government and Private schools functioning within Nagaland, as well as book sellers (wholesalers and retailers) and library in-charges across the State.

They have been instructed to ensure that all copies — in hard or soft form — of the Social Science Textbook for Grade 8 (Part 2) titled “Exploring Society: India and Beyond”, First Edition, published in February 2026 by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), are forthwith seized and removed from public access.

The order covers all copies presently in circulation, including those in storage, retail outlets, libraries and educational institutions.
