The Department of Commerce, MGM College, Dimapur organized a Hands-on Skill Development Workshop on March 7 aimed at equipping students with practical entrepreneurial skills through creative crafting techniques and promoting avenues for self-employment and innovation.
The programme began with a warm welcome and introductory address by Lopilo P Yanthan, Head of the Department of Commerce, who emphasized the growing importance of skill-based learning in today’s competitive and entrepreneurial world.
She encouraged students to move beyond conventional academics and develop practical abilities that can open doors to entrepreneurship and self-reliance.
The highlight of the workshop was the engaging session conducted by Evelyn Yanthan, a local entrepreneur, who served as the resource person. She demonstrated the creative art of making vibrant decorative flowers using pipe cleaners of different types, colours, and textures.
Through a step-by-step demonstration, participants learned how simple and affordable materials can be transformed into attractive handcrafted products. Students enthusiastically took part in the practical session, creating their own unique designs under the expert guidance of the resource person.

The workshop not only nurtured creativity but also introduced students to the possibility of developing such crafts into small-scale entrepreneurial ventures. The workshop concluded on a highly encouraging note with active participation from both students and faculty members.
The initiative proved to be a meaningful learning experience, leaving participants inspired, confident, and equipped with new creative skills that could contribute to future entrepreneurial pursuits.
