The Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Chumoukedima, has directed all recognized villages under the Chumoukedima district to initiate the process for the selection of Village Council Members (VCMs) for the next tenure, 2026–2031.
According to the notification issued by the Deputy Commissioner, Polan John, the directive follows the notification of the Government of Nagaland, Home Department dated March 9, 2026. The selection process will be conducted under the provisions of the Nagaland Village and Tribal Councils Act, 1978 read with Rule 3 of the Nagaland Village and Area Councils Rules, 1979.
All villages have been instructed to carry out the selection of Village Council Members strictly in accordance with the provisions of the Act and the prevailing customary practices and usages of the respective villages.

The notification further stated that the proposed list of newly selected Village Council Members should be duly forwarded through the respective Area Administrative Officers in the prescribed format and submitted to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Chumoukedima on or before April 15, 2026.
The directive has been circulated to the Commissioner of Nagaland, the ADC Medziphema, SDO (Civil) Dhansiripar, EAC Seithekema, the District Public Relations Officer (DPRO) Chumoukedima, and all Village Councils under the district for information and necessary action.
