The 2625th birth anniversary of Lord Mahavira was celebrated with great religious fervour and enthusiasm by the Jain Samaj of Nagaland across Dimapur and other parts of the state on Monday.
Marking the auspicious occasion, a grand procession was organised in Dimapur, witnessing participation from members of the Jain community in large numbers. Women, dressed in traditional saffron sarees, sang devotional hymns based on Jain teachings, adding a spiritual aura to the celebration. Men, clad in white attire with religious sashes, walked alongside the procession in a display of unity and devotion.
A specially decorated chariot dedicated to Lord Mahavira emerged as a major attraction, which was ceremonially pulled by enthusiastic Jain youths, who also raised religious slogans. Children from Jain Pathashalas captivated onlookers with their vibrant traditional costumes and placards bearing the message “Live and Let Live,” reflecting the core philosophy of Jainism.

The procession commenced from the Jain Temple Dimapur after offering prayers to Lord Mahavira. It moved through various parts of the town for about an hour before concluding at the temple premises. Devotees performed “Abhishek” and “Aarti” rituals, and families were seen offering prayers at different points along the route.
A community feast was also organised for members of the Jain Samaj and school children, marking the occasion with a spirit of togetherness and celebration.
The day-long observance made the occasion deeply special and memorable for all who participated, reaffirming the timeless teachings of peace, non-violence, and compassion preached by Lord Mahavira.
