Man sentenced to six months RI in molestation case

The Court of Mezivolu T Therieh, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Kohima, has convicted one David Swunetho (44) under Section 354A(1)(i) of the Indian Penal Code and sentenced him to six months rigorous imprisonment.

According to the judgment and order dated March 30, 2026, the court also imposed a fine of Rs. 10,000 on the accused. In default of payment, he will have to undergo an additional two months of simple imprisonment.

The case was investigated by ASI Venus Kikon of Women Police Station, Kohima. During the trial, the prosecution examined a total of nine witnesses. The State was represented by Special Public Prosecutor L Sashimongla.

While delivering the sentence, the Court observed that the offence was serious in nature as it affected the dignity of a woman. At the same time, it noted certain mitigating circumstances before awarding the punishment.

Additional Public Prosecutor, Kohima, Abraham appreciated the coordinated efforts of the investigating officer, prosecution team and witnesses, whose collective role ensured a successful investigation and trial. He reiterated the prosecution’s commitment to upholding justice in cases involving offences against women and strengthening the rule of law.
