Awareness on child rights and protection held at Ahthibung

One Day Awareness Programme on “Child Rights & Child Protection” was organized by the Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR) in collaboration with KNK, Ahthibung  on April 18 at Town Hall, Ahthibung Hq Peren, Nagaland.

Alun Hangsing, Chairman, NSCPCR, in his speech he quoted, “Where children are respected and protected God resides there.” He also stated that children are the backbone of the future and the society depends on children and as responsible citizens one needs to develop positive mental well-being of the children.

Short Speech was delivered by Thanghao Lenthang, Secretary, Kuki GBs Association Nagaland.

During the technical session, Lichani Murry, Legal Consultant, NSCPCR  spoke on the overview of “The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act” by protecting the children with care, protection and treatment with respect to their rights and to adopt a child friendly approach and also stressed on process of Adoption.

Understanding the POCSO Act & its Implementation was delivered by Akumla Longchari, Member, NSCPCR. She stated that children are the future of society, yet many of them continue to suffer in silence. She emphasized that the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act is a stringent and comprehensive law designed to safeguard all children below the age of 18 years from sexual abuse and exploitation.

On Right to Education (RTE), Aying Wangsha, Member, NSCPCR stressed that all stakeholders-including government, educators, parents, churches and civil societies should work hand in hand to ensure that all children are in school because only through education all children can be empowered

The programme was chaired by Neiting Haokip Chairperson, KNK, Ahthibung and the vote of thanks was delivered by T Sulanthung SDO (C), Ahthibung HQ. Peren, Nagaland.
