The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) on Thursday declared the results of the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) and Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) Examinations 2026, recording an overall improvement in pass percentage compared to the previous year, with girls outperforming boys in both HSLC and HSSLC Examinations.
In the HSLC, girls outperformed the boys with 72.72% qualifying. The pass percentage of boys stood at 71.30%.
Aman Kumar of MGM Higher Secondary School, Dimapur topped the HSLC with 98.33%.
In HSLC, a total of 22765 candidates were enrolled, out of 22765 candidates, a total of 16406 candidates qualified the examination with a qualified percentage of 72.07%.
In the Top 20 list, there are 80 candidates out of which 23 are boys and the rest 57 are girls. A candidate from GHS, Yachem secured the 19th Rank in the Top 20 list.
In terms of district wise performance for government schools, Kohima district topped the table with a percentage of 63% followed by Mokokchung at 55%, Phek and Tseminyu districts at 52%. Shamator district is at the bottom with 11%.
In respect of private schools, Mokokchung and Phek districts are at the top with a percentage of 92% followed by Kohima and Tseminyu districts at 90%.
In the HSSLC a total of 15468 were enrolled for the examination. The overall pass percentage in Arts stream is 85.78%, Commerce stream is 81.69% and Science stream is 85.67 %.
Keleno Thorie of Northfield, Khika topped the Arts Stream with 96.80%; Shreya Debnath of Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur topped the Commerce Stream with 96%; and Menguhaankum Chang of St John Higher Secondary Residential School, Dimapur topped the Science Stream with 95.60%.
There are 2 toppers from Government Higher Secondary Schools in the Merit list at the HSSLC Examination 2026 in Arts & Science streams from PM Shri GHSS, Chumoukedima and PM Shri Mayangnokcha GHSS, Mokokchung in Rank 7st of Arts stream and 10th Rank in Science Stream.
HSLC and HSSLC Compartmental Examination and Improvement of Performance:
Meanwhile, the National Credit Framework (NCrF) as envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 has emphasized the adoption of Credit Transfer Policy at various stages of education. Therefore, keeping this principle in mind, the eligibility criteria for the HSLC and HSSLC 2026 Compartmental Examination and Improvement of Performance has been raised from three to four subjects in the greater interests of the students.
Eligible Compartmental candidates are given two chances to clear the needs improvement/failed subjects.

As such, candidates failing in four or less subjects are eligible to apply and sit for the HSLC and HSSLC Compartmental Examination.
A qualified/passed candidate of HSLC and HSSLC Examination 2026 and desirous of improving his/her performance is eligible to apply for the improvement examination in four or less subjects. A candidate who qualified/passed the main HSLC and HSSLC Examination 2026 but secured needs improvement/failed marks is also eligible to sit for the HSLC /HSSLC Improvement examination.
Both the HSLC and HSSLC Compartmental Examination and Improvement Examination would be conducted in June 2026. Candidates desirous of appearing these two examinations must apply online through the NBSE portal from May 11 to 16, 2026.
Improvement examination in one subject:
Provision for candidates who qualified at the HSLC Examination but secured “Needs Improvement” in one subject would be given the opportunity to reappear in the “Needs Improvement” subject at the immediate examination can apply for courses, fulfill certain recruitment criteria and employment where they need to pass in all the subject they have opted.
Migration Certificate:
Provision to download Migration Certificate would be made available at the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE)portal www.nbsenl.edu.in. The Migration Certificate would be digitally signed. To get the digital signature, one can use Adobe to open the file.
However, those candidates who desire to avail the hard copy of the Migration Certificate, can get it from the Board’s office during office hours once they receive their original marksheets.
It may be mentioned that the HSLC Examination 2026 commenced on February 13 and concluded on February 26 and the HSSLC Examination 2026 commenced on February 12 and concluded on March 9.
