The first quarterly pre-monsoon preparedness meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority, Phek was held on June 3 at DC’s Conference Hall, Phek. The meeting mainly focuses on proactive measures for approaching monsoon season, which also includes emergency response mechanism, community participation and mitigating landslides and road disruptions.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Rhosietho Nguori, NCS convened that the meeting was called for our own preparedness during monsoon season. And also reminded about how Phek is categorised as a high-risk zone, requiring update plans to manage high rainfalls and potential damaged.
He also specified about how equipment like JCB mentioned by Public Work Department under Road and Bridges, is not readily available during monsoon season possessing challenges in clearing the roads and debris.

Officials from Medical Department also highlighted on the shortage of medicine and essential drugs as well as inadequate manpower, which affects the efficient functioning of healthcare services in the district. Line departments stretching the importance of clearance of forest said, it’s under process and necessary equipment and resources have been deployed to ensure the work is completed at the earliest.
The SDRF department reported the absence of adequate water rescue equipment, which has been causing operational difficulties. However, the department assured the meeting that it is fully prepared to respond to any monsoon-related emergencies and disaster.
Officials from various departments and agencies and other stakeholders attended the meeting and discuss preparedness measured, emergency response mechanisms and inter-departmental coordination to tackle possible monsoon -related disaster in the district.
