The Forest Colony Youth Organization (FCYO) inaugurated its newly constructed community basketball court at Lower Forest Colony, Kohima on 17th June 2026, with Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports, Government of Nagaland, S Keoshu Yimchunger as the special guest.
Yimchunger unveiled the stone monolith and formally inaugurated the basketball court. In his address, he congratulated FCYO and the residents of Forest Colony for successfully completing the basketball court. He emphasized the importance of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, leadership, and healthy lifestyles among young people, and encouraged the youth to make productive use of the facility.
He also said, the newly constructed basketball court is expected to serve as a hub for sporting activities and youth development in the locality, promoting unity and community spirit among residents.

Short speeches were delivered by Supongnukshi Ao, IFS, Additional PCCF, Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change and Advisor, FCU & FCYO, and Dr. Tseilhoutuo (Ato) Rhütso, MLA, 9 Kohima Town, who lauded the efforts of FCYO in creating a platform for youth engagement through sports.
Earlier, a dedicatory prayer was offered by Pastor Hormila Zenei-o, All People’s Church. The programme was chaired by Rükuno Nienü, Women Coordinator, FCYO, while the invocation was offered by Martha Ovung, Chairperson, MFWPF. A welcome address was delivered by Peter K. Rengma, Council Chairman, Forest Colony.
Giving a brief overview of the project, Thipuzo Azo Kezo, Former President of FCYO, highlighted the vision behind the construction of the court and acknowledged the contributions of all those who supported the initiative. A special song was presented by Keneiphenuo Sanchu.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Enok Awomi, President, FCYO, while the programme concluded with a mass benediction. The event was followed by an exhibition basketball match and light refreshments.
