ICPR-sponsored International Day of Yoga at MGM College

MGM College, Midland, Dimapur celebrated International Day of Yoga (IYD) on June 20 with active participation at the College Auditorium. Sponsored by the Indian Council of Philosophical Research (ICPR), New Delhi, the programme brought together faculty members, staff, students, delegates from various institutions, and members of the community in promoting holistic health and well-being through yoga.

The celebration commenced with the lighting of the lamp and the National Anthem under the chairmanship of Jemsungba Walling, Convenor of IYD 2026. Rita Singh, State Mahila President, Patanjali and Yoga Instructor, delivered an inspiring session on “Discover the Power of Yoga,” highlighting yoga as a way of life and demonstrating various postures and their health benefits.

Fr Shaiju Philip, Administrator of MGM College, welcomed the gathering and emphasized the importance of yoga in nurturing physical health, mental wellness, and self-discipline among the youth. He encouraged students to embrace yoga as a pathway to holistic development. The second resource person, Dr Dipsunder Sahu, Research Officer, Regional Ayurveda Research Centre, Nagaland, delivered an insightful lecture on stress management and holistic health. He explained the impact of stress, the General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS) model, and the scientific benefits of yoga in improving brain function, emotional balance, and overall well- being.

A special musical presentation by Nahong Konyak, Department of Education, added colour to the programme. Dr RK Behera, Principal, MGM College, proposed the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to ICPR, New Delhi, the resource persons, organizers, and participants for making the event a grand success. The session report was presented by Dr Sangeeta Kumari, Member, Research Committee.
