Woman found murdered in Dimapur; cousin arrested for murder and sexual assault

A 28-year-old woman was allegedly murdered and sexually assaulted at Master Colony, Naharbari in Dimapur, with police arresting her cousin in connection with the crime.

According to a press release issued by PRO Dimapur Police, a telephonic information was received at the Women Police Station at around 10:30 a.m. on June 28 from East Police Station that a woman had been found dead at Master Colony, Naharbari. A police team immediately rushed to the scene and conducted an inquest.

The deceased was identified as Roshni (28), daughter of Fazar Ali of Kandhulimari, Juria, Nagaon district, Assam, who was residing at Master Colony, Naharbari, Ward-10, Lane-1, Dimapur. After completing legal formalities, the body was shifted to the District Hospital Dimapur morgue for post-mortem examination.

During the preliminary investigation, police found that the victim’s two minor daughters and her minor brother were missing from the house. Acting on credible information, the investigating team traced the three children at Diphupar B Village, 5th Mile, Chümoukedima.

The children were rescued and, following medical examination, were handed over to Childline, while the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) was informed as per protocol.

Meanwhile, police brought Salim Ali (27), son of late Intaz Ali of Kandhulimari, Juria, Nagaon district, Assam, and presently residing at Master Colony, Naharbari, for questioning.

Based on evidence collected during the investigation, police formally arrested Salim Ali in connection with the murder and subsequent sexual assault of the deceased, who was his cousin sister.

A case has been registered at the Women Police Station, Dimapur, and further investigation is underway, police said.
