Thinuovicha Memorial Government Higher Secondary School (TMGHSS), Kohima, observed World Youth Skills Day 2026 by organising a skill exhibition that showcased the creativity, innovation, and practical competencies of its students. The programme served as a platform to highlight the significance of skill-based education and its role in preparing young learners for real-world challenges.
The event was attended by senior officials from SCERT, Nagaland; officials from Samagra Shiksha
Nagaland; officials from the Directorate of School Education; and the team of Lend A Hand India.
The dignitaries visited the exhibition stalls, interacted with students, and appreciated the efforts made
in demonstrating practical learning outcomes.
The programme commenced with a welcome address delivered by the vocational trainer, Rongsentoshi, setting the context for the exhibition and its objectives. This was followed by remarks from the Principal, Kelhikha Kenye, who emphasised the importance of vocational education in equipping students with employable skills, fostering entrepreneurship, and promoting lifelong learning.
The Principal encouraged students to actively engage in hands-on learning and continue nurturing innovation and creativity alongside their academic pursuits.

The exhibition featured a diverse range of student-developed projects, including a Sunlight Sensor
Street Light, Automatic Room Light Controller, Earthquake Detector, Biogas Plant, Drip
Irrigation System, Buzz Wire Game, Vegetable Chopper, agricultural nursery displays, renewable energy models, electrical products, and homemade cookies. These exhibits reflected the students’ ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practical contexts and demonstrated their problem-solving and technical skills.
World Youth Skills Day is observed annually on July 15 to celebrate the strategic importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship. The day highlights the need to empower youth through skill development to meet the demands of a rapidly evolving world.
The celebration concluded on a positive note, with students, teachers, and guests reaffirming the critical role of skill education in nurturing creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning, while also preparing youth to become skilled, confident, and future-ready individuals.
