A one day seminar on Basic Officiating Procedure in Athletic, organised by the office of the District Youth Resources & Sports Officer, Longleng in collaboration with Phom Sports Association was held on July 16, at CMTC Hall, Longleng.

The introductory programme commenced with an invocation pronounced by Finance Secretary. PSA, B. Bomlei Phom followed by a welcome note delivered by Vice President PSA, Hamnyei Angh.

Deputy Commissioner & Chairman Longleng District Sports Council, W. Manpai Phom, NCS, in his short address, credited the constant efforts of District Sports Council, under the guidance of the Phom Sports Association, for initiating the new drive. Marking it as the first step toward a bigger goal, he thanked all the participants for their dedication and hard work.

He said change we aspire for will come and the program like this would lay the foundation of the district’s sporting system to grow and flourish.

He also stressed the need for national and international-level resources to help district players compete at the highest level. He acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of the department of DYRSO during the program. The DC also urged the resource persons to share their ideas and experiences to help build a better sports ecosystem from scratch and identifying raw talent from rural areas and grooming them into professional athletes.

Chairperson District Sports Officer Longleng, Kenongoto Thokhwe, delivered the vote of thanks.

Resources persons PET, DOC (s), Neikuosielie and PET, Bongshet Phom, imparted the gathering on the topic, Call Room & Track Event, Starter, Field Event, Q & A and Practical. The seminar focuses on creating public awareness and promoting of athletic discipline in the district.

The programme was attended by all federating units of Phom Area Sports Association.
