Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio and his team visited the landslide affected area at Defence Colony, Walo Ward, Mon town on July 20.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister describe it as an uncertain and unfortunate incident and conveyed his sympathy to the effected families for their loss. He commended the volunteers, Civil societies, SDRF Mon, DEF Mon and the District Administration for their helping hand and he also requested them to continues support and cooperate to the effected families.
Rio noted that the state is now experiencing the impact of climate change like any other regions in the world. He also stressed the importance of adhering to Building By-laws and other similar regulations while undertaking constructions in vulnerable areas. As an immediate relief measure, he handed over Rs. 10 lakh for emergency use to civil societies headed by Konyak Union and assured that the Government would take up necessary actions to address the situation.
Speaking on behalf of the Konyak Legislative Members, Advisor, W Chingang Konyak also conveyed his sympathy to the families who suffered losses.

Investigation team from Konyak Union, presented a short video clip highlighting the extent of damage caused by landslide in the Town. The team also added that Mon Town has been totally cutoff from other parts due to road blockage in the lifeline roads like Tizit, Naganimora, Sonari, Wakching and Aboi.
DC Mon Wennyei Konyak, NCS in his speech appreciated the CM and his team for their visit. Konyak Union President, Yamao Konyak also appreciated the CM for the visit and extending support to the communities.
Meanwhile, District Administration Mon has informed all residents living in landslide-prone areas, steep slopes, riverbanks, and other vulnerable risk zones to evacuate immediately to a safer location as a precautionary measure. Residents have also been advised not to remain in or return to unsafe areas until further notice from the competent authorities.
The public has further been also advised to stay alert and follow updates issued by the District Administration and DDMA; and avoid unnecessary travel, especially through landslide-prone roads and vulnerable areas.
