An emergency meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) was convened at the Deputy Commissioner’s Chamber, Wokha on July 20 to review the impact of continuous heavy rainfall across the district. The meeting was chaired by Deputy Commissioner Wokha, K Mhathung Tsanglao, who addressed the members on the urgent situation.
The DC highlighted that incessant rainfall has triggered landslides, mudslides, and damage to houses, retaining walls, and public infrastructure across Wokha town and other subdivisions. Reports from Lakhuti indicated several houses badly damaged by landslides, while in Etsutchukha Colony two houses were severely affected, with immediate relief provided. In another case, one house was badly damaged and the families were safely evacuated.
The DC informed that sub divisional officers have been deployed to provide immediate relief and response, and that the district’s emergency response system has been kept ready for any eventuality. Arrangements for basic necessities have been made, and members of DDMA were encouraged to remain responsive, active, and alert to any unfortunate incidents.
The meeting also reviewed preparedness measures, including the availability of machinery for clearing roads, medical supplies and medicines, logistical arrangements, food grain stocks, and communication handsets in case of network breakdowns.

The DC further noted that several power line connections have been disrupted due to landslides, which are being addressed. He urged all members to remain vigilant and responsive to ensure public safety.
The DC also issued a public advisory urging residents to remain cautious in view of the continuous heavy rainfall, flooding, landslides, mudslides, and damage to public infrastructure. Citizens were advised to avoid venturing into flood‑affected areas, overflowing rivers, streams, drains, and waterlogged roads; refrain from unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall, especially in landslide‑prone areas; stay away from unstable slopes, retaining walls, and embankments; and move to safer places if living in vulnerable locations.
The advisory also stressed extra caution while driving, avoiding submerged roads or bridges, and ensuring the safety of children, elderly persons, and persons with disabilities. Residents were urged to closely monitor weather updates and follow advisories issued by the District Administration and DDMA Wokha. Emergencies such as landslides, flooding, house damage, road blockages, or persons in distress should be reported immediately to DDMA Wokha at 8787620382 or 8259037275, or to the nearest Administrative Office or Police Station.
The District Administration assured that all necessary response mechanisms have been activated and requested citizens to remain calm, cooperate with authorities, and refrain from spreading unverified information or rumours.
