The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has expressed profound grief over the loss of lives caused by the devastating landslides and flash floods that have struck Mon district and other parts of Nagaland, while extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
In a statement, the Federation said it mourns the precious lives lost and stands in unwavering solidarity with every family and community affected by the tragedy. It also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured and for strength and comfort to all those enduring immense hardship.
The NSF acknowledged and appreciated the tireless efforts of the State Government, district administrations, the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), security forces, medical personnel, civil society organisations, churches, volunteers and all individuals engaged in rescue, relief and rehabilitation operations despite challenging conditions.
Appealing for collective support, the Federation called upon all Naga citizens, tribal bodies, student organisations, churches, civil society organisations, business establishments and well-wishers to come together in the spirit of unity and extend every possible assistance to the affected families and communities. It stated that every act of compassion would help the victims rebuild their lives with dignity and hope.
The Federation also urged the Nagaland Government to ensure that comprehensive relief reaches every affected family in a timely, transparent and equitable manner. It stressed that, beyond emergency assistance and ex gratia support, the government should prioritise long-term rehabilitation by restoring damaged roads, bridges, electricity, water supply and communication networks, while providing adequate compensation for the loss of homes, crops, livestock and other properties.

Highlighting the need for stronger disaster management, the NSF called on the State Government to strengthen disaster preparedness and invest in climate-resilient infrastructure across Nagaland. It advocated scientific landslide mitigation measures, improved drainage systems, slope stabilisation, effective early warning mechanisms, hazard mapping and resilient public infrastructure, particularly in vulnerable and high-risk areas.
Reaffirming its solidarity with the people of Mon and all affected communities, the Federation prayed that the Almighty grant eternal peace to those who lost their lives, healing to the injured, comfort to the bereaved families and renewed hope and strength to everyone affected by the disaster.
