The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, in coordination with District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs), district administrations and line departments, has intensified relief and rescue operations across the state to assist communities affected by the ongoing monsoon.
With road connectivity to Mon and Longleng districts disrupted, NSDMA requisitioned Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft for the evacuation of stranded passengers and the airlifting of essential relief supplies. A State Government helicopter, requisitioned through the Nagaland State Transport (NST), also supplemented the evacuation efforts.
According to NSDMA, IAF operations conducted on July 23 and 24 evacuated 148 stranded passengers, including 43 from Mon and 105 from Longleng, while the State Government helicopter evacuated an additional 41 passengers from Mon district. The evacuees included students and Nagaland Public Service Commission Combined Educational Services Examination (NPSC CESE) aspirants stranded due to road blockages.
Relief materials airlifted to the affected districts included food supplies arranged by NSDMA through the Department of Food and Civil Supplies, medical kits and clothing contributed by the Konyak Students’ Union, Kohima, and additional food and relief materials mobilised through the DonateKart Foundation. NSDMA said such air operations would continue as required.

To strengthen relief efforts, a mini truck carrying relief materials was dispatched from Mokokchung to Tuli, followed by a second consignment of relief materials to support relief operations in the affected areas. Relief materials were also delivered to Patizung Ward for onward distribution, while ration supplies were provided to stranded and displaced families in Changtongya, ensuring timely access to essential food supplies for vulnerable households.
Meanwhile, district authorities have continued disbursing financial assistance to affected families. DDMA Wokha released Emergency Relief Fund (ERF) assistance to households whose homes and retaining walls were damaged by landslides. In Shamator, Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairman Arikumba handed over immediate relief assistance to two beneficiaries whose houses were damaged by landslides. Similarly, DDMA Zunheboto, led by Deputy Commissioner Dharam Raj, IAS, distributed ERF assistance to five families affected by recent landslides.
NSDMA also informed that financial assistance has been released to all districts to support road restoration and debris clearance in disaster-affected areas.
The authority said it continues to closely monitor the evolving monsoon situation in coordination with DDMAs, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), line departments and district administrations. Damage assessment, relief distribution, restoration of essential services and road clearance operations are being carried out on priority to ensure timely assistance reaches affected communities.
Reaffirming its commitment to disaster response, NSDMA said it will continue to strengthen coordinated disaster response, expediting relief and restoration efforts, and supporting affected communities towards a safe and resilient recovery.
