Mass funeral for two missing persons at landslides held at Mon

After 6 consecutive days, the search and operation team couldn’t retrieve two persons of the 8 persons who died at Landslide effected area in Defence colony Mon on July 19. The search operation was called off in the evening of July 24.

A mass funeral service for the two missing persons was held in the presence of Advisor, Wangpang Konyak; District Administration headed by Deputy Commissioner Mon, Wennyei Konyak; Superintendent of Police Mon, Kanchan Kumar Kandpal; Konyak Union, Konyak Students ‘Union, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong, villagers, families members, and Ward Members on July 25 at Thamnan ward Mon Town.

Speaking on behalf of the District administration, the DC conveyed condolences to the family members. He acknowledged the efforts rendered by all to retrieve the bodies and expressed his gratitude to all the 9 elected members of Mon District and MP, Rajya sabha Member, Phangnon Konyak for their financial and moral support.

He also thanked all the NGOs led by KU and KSU, officers and officials from various departments, volunteers for their cooperation and tireless sacrifice made during the Search and Operation period for the missing bodies for six days.

Representatives from Konyak Union, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko khong, Konyak students’ Union, Thamnan ward, village and family members also delivered short speeches.
