Prayer and candlelight service held at Mon

In remembrance of the victims of July 19 catastrophic landslide in Defence colony Mon Town, Konyak Baptist Church Mon organized a Prayer and Candlelight service at KBC Mon on July 26.

In the programme, Deputy Commissioner Mon, Wennyei Konyak, NCS thanked the KBCM for organizing the prayer and candle light services for those lives that had been lost in a tragic incident. He expressed his sympathy to the bereaved and injured families, and encouraged them to stay strong, seeking God’s strength and comfort for a bright future.

He also expressed his solidarity for the two bodies which couldn’t be retrieved even after six days of consecutive search and rescue operations conducted by the Government agencies and citizens by deploying available machinery in the town. He urged the people to stand united in times of such catastrophe, and to rebuild the Town damaged by the landslides.

He commended the cooperation and sacrifices rendered by the 42 Assam Rifle Mon, Police, SDRF, the NGOs and Volunteers from all the wards during the difficult time. He encouraged the people to keep humanity first in our life, stand united and be prepared to face such eventualities in the future.

The DC also expressed his gratitude to the State Government led by Chief Minister, Dr Neiphiu Rio and all the nine elected members of Mon district for their love and support during the tragic incident.

During the service, a testimony was shared by Yinai, Husband of Late Pomei and Hetwang, the lone survivor of his family. Minister, CL John and his lady wife were also present in the program.

Short speeches were delivered by Konyak Union President, Yamao Konyak, Konyak Students’ Union President, Temwang Konyak, and the President ENSF.

Message of Hope & Candle lighting was led by Rev H Moba Konyak, Pastor KBCM.
