The Nagaland Wrestling Association (NWA), in collaboration with the Nagaland Olympic Association (NOA), the Department of Youth Resources & Sports (DYRS) and the Government of Nagaland, has announced an Open State Level Trial Selection for freestyle, Greco Roman and women’s wrestling to identify athletes for the National Games 2027.

The trials would be held on August 18, 2026, in Kohima, beginning at 9 a.m. Participants have been instructed to report at the venue one hour before the scheduled time.

The selection will be conducted in the following categories:

Freestyle (Senior Men): 57 kg, 65 kg, 74 kg, 86 kg, 97 kg and 125 kg.

Greco Roman (Senior Men): 60 kg, 67 kg, 77 kg, 87 kg, 97 kg and 130 kg.

Women’s Wrestling (Senior): 50 kg, 53 kg, 57 kg, 62 kg, 68 kg and 76 kg.

The NWA stated that the trials are open to all eligible bona fide residents of Nagaland who meet the prescribed age and weight criteria and are physically fit to participate.

Interested wrestlers have been asked to submit their name, age, gender and weight on or before August 15, 2026, through the designated contact numbers: 8787538827, 9862778564 and 7005104434.

According to the association, wrestlers selected from the state trials will attend a High-Performance Residential Training Camp in Kohima from August 20 to September 30, 2026. Following the camp, a State Level Championship-cum-selection trial will be conducted.

Athletes selected from the championship will then undergo an Advanced National Level Training Camp at national training centres outside Nagaland from October 2026 to February 2027. A final trial will thereafter select one wrestler in each weight category to represent Nagaland at the National Games 2027, scheduled to be held in March 2027 in Meghalaya, with the wrestling events being co-hosted by Nagaland.

The final state contingent will also participate in a Competition Preparation Camp in Kohima during March 2027 before the commencement of the Games.

Meanwhile, the NWA informed all its affiliated and provisional units that this notification supersedes its earlier circular (No. NWA/CIR-01/2026/107 dated July 10, 2026) regarding the Wrestling Coaching Camp. All affiliated units have been directed to submit the list of eligible wrestlers in the notified categories by August 15, 2026.
