NH-2 at Phesama sinking zone to remain closed on August 2 for restoration works

The District Magistrate, Kohima, B Henok Buchem, NCS has ordered the temporary closure of the affected stretch of National Highway-2 at the Phesama Sinking Zone on August 2 (Sunday) from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to facilitate restoration works and ensure public safety.

According to the order, the closure will affect the section between Chainage Km 191+840 and Km 192+100 along the Kohima–Mao stretch of NH-2 due to active sliding of debris from the adjoining hill slopes in the Phesama Sinking area.

During the closure period, all Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) would be diverted via the Phesama–Kisama/Kigwema route through Rhododendron Resort for two-way traffic.

For Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs) bound for Manipur, the administration has advised travel via Peren District. In emergency situations, the Kohima–Jessami and Chakhabama–Zunheboto roads may be used, subject to prescribed load limits.

The District Magistrate has appealed to the general public to extend full cooperation during the temporary closure in the interest of public safety and the smooth execution of restoration works.
