The District Congress Committee (DCC), Mokokchung, has dismissed claims of a mass resignation by party workers, stating that an internal verification has found the majority of the purported resignation signatures to be invalid or misleading.
In a statement issued on Friday, the DCC said it initiated an internal inquiry immediately after a purported resignation letter, claiming the resignation of a large number of Congress workers, began circulating. The verification process has now been completed.
According to the findings, the resignation document carried 61 signatures, of which 14 belonged to individuals who are not registered members of the Indian National Congress and therefore had no standing to resign from the party.
The committee further stated that 28 individuals informed the party they had been misled or deceived into signing documents and were unaware that their signatures would be used to portray them as resigning from the Congress. These individuals have since reaffirmed their commitment to the party.
Additionally, the DCC said 10 signatures belonged to individuals whose party memberships had not yet been approved.

Based on the investigation, the DCC asserted that the purported resignation letter does not reflect the true position of Congress workers in Mokokchung and that claims of a mass exodus from the party have been “materially undermined” by the facts established during the verification process.
The committee described attempts to misrepresent the position of party workers through deception or other dishonest means as a serious matter that is inconsistent with the principles of transparency and accountability in a democratic system.
The DCC also expressed gratitude to party workers who came forward to clarify their positions and reaffirm their loyalty to the Indian National Congress.
Reiterating its commitment to strengthening the organisation, the committee said it would continue to serve the people of Mokokchung with honesty, integrity and sincerity. It also urged party workers, supporters and the public to rely only on information disseminated through official party channels.
