The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, has issued a weather outlook for the period from August 2 to 5, warning of intermittent rainfall, localized thunderstorms and lightning across several parts of the state, while advising the public to remain alert to the risk of landslides, flash floods and waterlogging.

According to the district-wise forecast, August 2 is expected to witness light rain in most districts, including Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kohima, Meluri, Niuland and Peren. Longleng is likely to receive moderate to heavy intermittent rainfall, while Phek may experience localized thunderstorms accompanied by light rain. No active weather warnings have been issued for Kiphire, Mon, Noklak, Shamator, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto.

On August 3, weather activity is expected to intensify across the state. Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Mokokchung and Phek are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall at scattered locations. Kohima, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha and Longleng may witness localized thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rainfall, while most other districts are expected to receive light rain at a few places.

The forecast for August 4 indicates localized thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rainfall over Kohima, Longleng, Meluri, Mokokchung, Peren, Shamator and Wokha. Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Phek, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Tseminyu and Tuensang are expected to receive light to moderate rainfall at a few or scattered locations.

On August 5, scattered light to moderate rainfall is expected over most parts of Nagaland. Tseminyu may experience moderate to heavy rainfall at a few places, while Mon and Zunheboto are not under any active weather warning.

In view of the forecast, the NSDMA has advised residents to remain vigilant for possible flooding, waterlogging, landslides, mudslides and falling rocks, particularly in vulnerable areas during periods of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Motorists have been urged to exercise caution while travelling, and the public has been advised to keep track of official weather forecasts and advisories through the NSDMA Weather website and the SAFER Nagaland App.
