Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers, Jagat Prakash Nadda on Wednesday visited landslide-affected areas in Mon district and assured the people that the Central Government would extend all possible assistance for relief, rehabilitation and restoration.
Accompanied by Assam Health Minister, Ashok Singhal and Rajya Sabha MP, Phangnon Konyak, Nadda inspected the worst-affected locations at Defence Colony and adjoining areas in Techa Ward, where widespread landslides caused extensive damage to homes and infrastructure.
During an interaction with affected families at the Konyak Union Office, Nadda expressed solidarity with the victims, describing the disaster as “very disheartening and painful.”
“You are not alone in these difficult hours. The Government of India stands with you,” he said, assuring that the Centre would leave “no stone unturned” in supporting relief and restoration efforts. He also informed that a Central team would visit the district to assess the situation and facilitate further assistance.
According to a DIPR update, the Union Minister conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of support to the affected families and appreciated the efforts of the district administration, Konyak Union, Konyak Students’ Union, Konyak Nyupuh Sheko Khong, and volunteers for operating emergency relief camps.
He also commended the coordinated rescue and relief operations carried out by the Deputy Commissioner, Superintendent of Police, SDRF personnel, civil society organisations and volunteers.
Welcoming the visiting delegation, Deputy Commissioner, Wennyei Konyak presented an overview of the disaster, stating that incessant rainfall had triggered devastating floods and landslides across several parts of Mon district, damaging roads, bridges and public infrastructure while disrupting connectivity to many villages.

He said Defence Colony and adjoining localities were among the worst-hit areas, with several houses damaged, families displaced, and temporary disruptions in power and water supply. Relief camps were established where necessary, while food grains, drinking water, medicines and other essential commodities continue to be distributed to affected residents.
Konyak Union president, Yamao Konyak thanked the Union Minister for visiting the district, saying the visit had reassured the people that “Mon is not alone in this dark hour.”
Assistant Manager (Response & Communication), NSDMA, and Nodal Officer (Disaster Management), DDMA Mon, Rendemo Shitio presented a detailed assessment of the monsoon disaster, highlighting that incessant rainfall on July 19 and 20 triggered catastrophic landslides and flash floods across the district, resulting in loss of lives, destruction of homes, severe agricultural damage and the complete blockage of critical road networks.
He informed that Mon headquarters recorded 83.95 mm of rainfall on July 19, while cumulative rainfall between July 19 and 31 reached 341 mm, contributing to the scale of the disaster. Video footage documenting the devastation and relief operations was also presented by the Konyak Union media team.
