The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department, has forecast widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across the state from August 6 to 9, warning of possible flooding, waterlogging, flash floods, landslides and mudslides in vulnerable areas.
According to the latest district-wise weather outlook, localized thunderstorms accompanied by light to moderate rainfall are expected over most parts of the state during the four-day period, with rainfall activity likely to intensify on August 7 and Zunheboto expected to receive the heaviest rainfall on August 8.
On August 6, localized thunderstorms and lightning with light rain at scattered places are likely over Chümoukedima, Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Peren, Phek, Tuensang and Wokha. Tseminyu and Zunheboto may experience more widespread thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall, while Kiphire and Meluri are not expected to receive any active weather warnings.
Weather activity is expected to strengthen on August 7, with Chümoukedima and Dimapur likely to witness localized thunderstorms and light to moderate rainfall. Mokokchung, Peren, Wokha and Longleng may receive comparatively heavier rainfall, while most other districts are expected to experience scattered thunderstorms accompanied by light rain.

On August 8, Zunheboto is forecast to receive the most significant rainfall during the period, with localized thunderstorms and moderate to heavy rainfall at scattered locations. Longleng is also likely to experience thunderstorms with light to moderate rain, while Kiphire, Peren, Tseminyu and Tuensang are expected to receive scattered light to moderate rainfall.
Rainfall activity is expected to gradually subside on August 9. However, Wokha and Peren may continue to receive scattered light to moderate rainfall, while Kiphire, Mon and Zunheboto are likely to witness localized thunderstorms with light to moderate showers. Most other districts are expected to receive light rain at a few places.
In view of the forecast, NSDMA has urged residents, particularly those living in low-lying, foothill and riverine areas, to remain vigilant against flooding, flash floods, waterlogging, landslides, mudslides and falling rocks.
Motorists have been advised to exercise caution while travelling through hilly and landslide-prone stretches and to avoid crossing swollen streams or waterlogged roads. The authority has also urged the public to stay updated through official weather advisories, the NSDMA Weather website and the SAFER Nagaland App for real-time weather information.
