In a major push toward fostering local talent and economic self-reliance, the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, IAS, has officially issued a notification constituting a specialized Sub-committee under the District Skill Committee, Mokokchung.

The primary objective of this newly formed body is to promote skill development, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihood opportunities across the district through the highly coordinated efforts of key local stakeholders. The notification comes into force with immediate effect and will remain active until further orders.

The Sub-committee brings together a diverse panel of administrative officials, educational leaders, and community representatives, with Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung as the Convener, while T Imlisunep Ao (Principal, Government ITI, Mokokchung) as the Member Secretary. The members comprise of Lipokonen Jamir (Joint Director, SARS & President, Mokokchung Ao Officers Telongjem); Dr P Tiatemsu (Associate Professor, Fazl Ali College); President, Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM); Youth Secretary, ABAM, Impur; Lanuakum (Deputy Chairperson, Mokokchung Municipal Council); Representative, Ao Lanur Telongjem; Lanusenla (Principal, ICIT, Mokokchung); Lucy Lhousineino (District Employment Officer, Mokokchung) and SDO (C) / EAC (Dev).

The committee is tasked with a comprehensive mandate to transform the district’s socioeconomic landscape. According to the official terms of reference, the panel will actively identify district-specific skill gaps and map out emerging livelihood opportunities that align with local economic potential.

A central focus would be placed on promoting convergence among government departments, educational institutions, industry bodies, and community organizations. The committee is heavily oriented towards encouraging innovation, entrepreneurship, and market-ready vocational training, with a special emphasis on empowering youth and women. Furthermore, it will actively work to preserve and commercialize traditional skills, local crafts, and indigenous knowledge.

To ensure strict progress and accountability, the Sub-committee is mandated to meet at least once a month. It will evaluate ground realities, benchmark best practices, and deliver a monthly progress report detailing its activities, findings, and strategic recommendations directly to the Office of the Deputy Commissioner for review. With the Chairperson’s approval, the committee also holds the authority to co-opt subject-matter experts and department representatives as special invitees to address specific development agendas.
