Phek Government College organised its 44th Freshers’ Meet on Friday at Deo Nukhu Hall on the college campus, with Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Rhosietho Nguori, NCS, attending as the chief guest.
The programme commenced with an invocation by Seyielenuo Nisa, Assistant Professor, Department of History, followed by a welcome address delivered by Vevolu Khamo, Associate Professor, Department of Education.
A highlight of the event was the felicitation of meritorious students for their outstanding academic achievements.
The L Mefutiba Award, instituted in 2018 by former Principal L. Mefutiba with a cash prize of ₹5,000, is presented annually to the BA/B.Sc. final-year student securing the highest CGPA under Nagaland University. This year’s award was conferred on Ms. Vemutulu Vero of the Department of Political Science, who secured the highest CGPA of 8.03.
The Meritorious Award, instituted by the Department of Education for the student obtaining the highest CGPA in the subject, was awarded to Veduvolu Khamo, who secured a CGPA of 6.85.

Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner, Rhosietho Nguori encouraged the students, particularly the freshers, to recognise the importance of making the right choices in life. He described “choice” as one of the most powerful tools available to every individual, emphasising that while life presents both success and failure, every person has the responsibility to decide the path they wish to follow.
He said that although human beings have no control over life and death, God has given everyone the opportunity to make meaningful choices during their lifetime. Urging students to take responsibility for their future, he reminded them that the decisions they make today will shape their tomorrow.
Encouraging the freshers to pursue their goals with determination and wisdom, he advised them to make choices that would lead to personal growth and success.
The programme concluded with the participation of students, faculty members and staff of Phek Government College.
