Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday said he was ready to “answer all questions” in Parliament on the student protests over the alleged NEET paper leak and urged Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to facilitate a discussion on the issue in consultation with the Opposition.
In a letter to the Speaker, Shah said the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026 had already been discussed during the ongoing Monsoon Session, but no Opposition member had raised the NEET examination issue during the debate on the legislation.
“Nevertheless, the government is ready to discuss this issue again,” Shah said.
He pointed out that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju had agreed on behalf of the government during a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee to hold a discussion in Parliament on the student protests concerning the NEET examination.
Shah requested the Speaker to consult the Opposition and, through mutual consensus, allocate adequate time for the discussion.
“I intend to remain present in the House during the scheduled time to participate in the discussion on this issue and am prepared to answer all questions raised by the Opposition,” Shah said.

The Opposition has been demanding a statement from the Home Minister over allegations of police excesses and the alleged use of pellet guns during the July 20 student protest march near Jantar Mantar over the NEET paper leak.
The issue has led to repeated disruptions in Parliament since the beginning of the Monsoon Session, with Opposition parties demanding accountability from the government and seeking answers from Shah.
Earlier on Wednesday, Opposition leaders staged a demonstration against the Centre, raising slogans of “Amit Shah Jawab Do”, targeting the Home Minister over allegations of excessive use of force by police against protesting students in the national capital.
Shah’s offer to participate in the proposed discussion and respond to the Opposition’s questions comes amid continuing political confrontation over the handling of the student protests and alleged irregularities in the NEET examination. (with ANI inputs)
