The Dr Ambedkar Foundation has announced financial assistance for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) patients suffering from life-threatening ailments under its “Dr. Ambedkar Medical Aid Scheme”.

The scheme provides assistance for major medical conditions and procedures, including organ transplants, spinal surgeries, kidney ailments, cancer and brain-related diseases. According to information circulated by the concerned department in pursuance of a Dr Ambedkar Foundation communication dated July 27, 2026, the assistance is available to families with an annual income below ₹5 lakh and to patients who are not covered under the Ayushman Bharat PM-JAY or Chief Minister’s Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS).

Eligible individuals are required to apply in the prescribed format and submit the application to the Director, Dr. Ambedkar Foundation, 15 Janpath, New Delhi–110001, at least 15 days before the proposed date of treatment.

Applicants are required to submit self-certified copies of their caste or tribe certificate, an income certificate issued by the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, ration card or Aadhaar card, and an estimated cost of the proposed surgery, transplant, dialysis or chemotherapy duly certified by the Medical Superintendent of the hospital in the prescribed format.

The approved financial assistance will be released directly to the concerned hospital rather than to the applicant. The amount will be subject to the maximum ceiling prescribed for the particular ailment or treatment under the scheme.
