1,620 bottles of IMFL seized from truck in Mokokchung

Mokokchung police seized a large consignment of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) concealed in a truck during a routine checking at New Camp area in Mokokchung in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to police sources, the vehicle, a Tata truck bearing registration number AS-03-AC-4175, was intercepted at around 1 a.m. on August 26 on suspicion of carrying illicit liquor.

The vehicle and its driver were subsequently taken to Police Station-II, Mokokchung, where a search led to the recovery of 1,620 bottles of 750-ml McDowell rum and 10 cases of 180-ml McDowell rum.

The liquor was allegedly concealed beneath 180 bags of UltraTech cement in a hidden/false compartment constructed inside the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Prasanta Borah (33), son of Topah Borah, resident of Fulonibari Chakimukh, under Nazira police station in Sivasagar district, Assam, was arrested under a proper arrest memo.

The recovered IMFL was seized under a proper seizure memo at the police station after observing the required legal procedures.

Police said the case has been taken up for investigation.
