The Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Chizami block, Phek, organised a Skill Training of Rural Youth (STRY) on Bonsai Making and a Demonstration cum Farmers’ Scientist Interaction Programme on Horticultural crops from August 27 to 29 at Zhavame, Zelome and Tsupfume village.

The STRY on Bonsai Making was conducted with Letso Mekro, Proprietor of Nagami Bonsai as the resource person. The training provided participants with practical knowledge on Bonsai Making including selection of suitable plants, potting, shaping, pruning and maintenance. The hands-on training aimed to equip rural youth with useful skills and encourage entrepreneurship and self-employment opportunities in the ornamental horticulture sector.

A Demonstration cum Farmer Scientist Interaction Programme on Horticultural crops was conducted with Manjunath KS, Subject Matter Specialist (SMS), KVK Porba, Phek as the resource person.

The programme focused particularly on scientific cultivation and management of kiwi. Participants were given detailed information on suitable climate and soil requirements, important Kiwi varieties, training and pruning techniques, grafting methods, maturity indices for harvesting, pest and disease management, weed management and other important management practices.

The programme enabled the participants to gain a better understanding of kiwi production and the importance of adopting scientific orchard management practices for improved productivity and quality.
