The Nagaland Legislative Assembly on Tuesday granted permission to withdraw the Frontier Nagaland Territorial Authority (FNTA) Bill, 2026, paving the way for the government to bring the proposed legislation back for consideration after further examination.

Deputy Chief Minister, Yanthungo Patton moved the motion seeking leave of the House to withdraw the Bill during the Ninth Session of the 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly. The motion was approved by voice vote, following which Speaker declared that permission for withdrawal had been granted.

The FNTA Bill was originally introduced in the Assembly on March 26, 2026, but was later deferred and referred back to the Home Department for further examination and deliberation.

The Government has now scheduled consideration and passing of the Bill for September 3. Members have been asked to submit any proposed clarifications or amendments by 2 p.m. on September 2.

The withdrawal comes as the state government continues to review the proposed framework of the FNTA before proceeding with further legislative action.

The FNTA proposal is linked to the Government’s efforts to address longstanding demands for greater administrative and developmental autonomy in eastern Nagaland.
