The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has issued a weather outlook for all districts of the state from September 4 to 7, warning of thunderstorms, lightning and varying intensity of rainfall, with several districts likely to experience heavy to moderate-heavy rain on September 7.

On September 4, thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by light to moderate rain are expected in Kiphire, Kohima, Meluri, Mon, Noklak, Phek, Shamator and Zunheboto. Light to moderate rain is likely in Longleng, Niuland, Tseminyu, Tuensang and Wokha, while Chumoukedima, Dimapur, Mokokchung and Peren may receive light rain.

On September 5, thunderstorms and lightning with light to moderate rain are forecast in Kiphire, Longleng, Meluri, Mon, Noklak, Shamator, Tuensang and Zunheboto. Kohima, Mokokchung and Phek may experience thunderstorms and light rain, while Dimapur, Niuland and Peren face a risk of thunderstorms and lightning. Chumoukedima is expected to remain overcast, with light rain forecast in Tseminyu and Wokha.

The unsettled weather is expected to continue on September 6, with thunderstorms and light to moderate rain likely over most places in Kohima, Phek and Zunheboto. Similar conditions are forecast in Kiphire, Meluri, Mokokchung, Mon, Noklak, Shamator, Tseminyu and Tuensang. Dimapur, Longleng and Niuland may receive thunderstorms with light rain, while Chumoukedima and Peren are likely to receive light rain and Wokha light to moderate rain.

September 7 has been flagged as a high-alert day, with heavy to moderate-heavy rainfall expected in Dimapur, Kohima, Longleng, Meluri, Mokokchung, Mon, Niuland, Noklak, Phek, Tseminyu, Tuensang, Wokha and Zunheboto. Light to moderate rain is expected in Chumoukedima, Kiphire, Peren and Shamator.

The five-day rainfall outlook indicates significant variation across districts, with the highest cumulative rainfall forecast in Mon at 150.11 mm, followed by Tuensang at 149.38 mm, Zunheboto at 140.52 mm, Phek at 136.29 mm, Noklak at 131.93 mm, Tseminyu at 131.62 mm and Meluri at 130.81 mm. Shamator is expected to receive 125.72 mm, while Kohima may record 119.92 mm.

The NSDMA advised the public to regularly monitor weather updates through the Safer Nagaland mobile application and the NSDMA Weather Portal. It also urged people to avoid exposed locations during thunderstorms and exercise heightened caution while travelling during periods of heavy rainfall and poor visibility.
