The district-Level Youth Festival 2026, organised by the Office of the District Youth Resources and Sports Officer (DYRSO), Chumoukedima, was held on September 12 at the Chumoukedima Football Stadium.
The festival provided a platform for young participants to showcase their talents, creativity and cultural expressions through various competitions, including Folk Song, Declamation and Folk Dance. The district-level Youth Festival 2026 highlighted the talents and creativity of young people in the district while promoting cultural expression, confidence, creativity and active youth participation.
The programme commenced with the opening by the Chairperson, followed by an invocation. While proposing the welcome address, the District Youth Resources & Sports Officer (DYRSO), Chumoukedima, Wutsutho highlighted the selection process for the State Level competitions.
Addressing the participants, Wutsutho informed that the Folk Dance and Folk Song performances would be video recorded for evaluation. Participants from all 17 districts of the State would be assessed, and the best eight would be selected to compete at the State Level.
He further informed that the final results of the Folk Dance and Folk Song competitions would be declared on September 17, following which the selected participants would be informed through their respective team leaders and teachers-in-charge.
The State Level Competition is scheduled to be held on September 28 to 30 at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima.
The festival concluded with the declaration of results and distribution of prizes, where both the folk songs and folk-dance competition was won by Vungi Nzanta Cultural Club (VNCC). The declamation was won by Thejatsinuo Sanchu and Yimtisenla respectively.
LONGLENG:
The Office of the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Longleng organized the District Youth Festival on September 12 at Yingli College Longleng. The programme commenced with an invocation pronounced by, Pongjai Phom.
In his welcome address, District Youth Resources & Sports Officer, Longleng, Kenongoto Thokhwe, briefly highlighted the significance and objectives of the event.
Special speech on the significance of folklore was delivered by Vice Principal Yingli College, Dr. B. Henshet Phom, who emphasized the importance of preserving traditional knowledge, cultural expressions, and indigenous heritage among the younger generation.
The festival featured competitive events in Folk Song, Folk Dance, and Declamation. The competitions were judged by Social and Cultural Secretary, Phom Students’ Conference (PSC), B. Bauom Phom; Area Researcher Officer Longleng, Lenke Aventh; and Assistant Professor Yingli College, Dr. Vangngoi Phom.
The programme was chaired by Mhasinuo Rio, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Assistant Professor Yingli College Longleng, Manggai H. Phom. Chuthei Phom presented a special number during the program.
ZUNHEBOTO:
The Office of the District Youth Resources and Sports Officer (DYRSO), Zunheboto, organized the District Level Youth Festival 2026 at the Indoor Badminton Stadium, Old Town, Zunheboto, on September 14, 2026.
The programme commenced with a welcome and introductory session, followed by an invocation delivered by Ilo K. Achumi, Assistant Pastor (C), SBCZ. This was followed by an address and briefing by Anguvito Sumi, District Youth Resources and Sports Officer (DYRSO), Zunheboto.
The festival aimed to provide a platform for young talents to showcase their creativity, cultural skills, artistic abilities and oratory skills through various competitions.
The competitions included declamation, folk song and folk dance, allowing participants to demonstrate their talents while promoting cultural expression and youth participation.

In the declamation competition, Nigha of Cornerstone Higher Secondary School, Zunheboto, secured the first position, while Lino Kiba of Zunheboto Government College won the second position.
In the folk song competition, Zunheboto Government College secured the first position, followed by Cornerstone Higher Secondary School, Zunheboto, in second place.
In the folk-dance competition, Cornerstone Higher Secondary School, Zunheboto, won the first position, while Zunheboto Government College secured the second position.
The District Level Youth Festival highlighted the importance of nurturing young talent and encouraging youth participation in cultural and artistic activities.
SHAMATOR:
The District Level Youth Festival 2026 was organized by the District Youth Resources & Sports Office, Tuensang, Nagaland, on September 14 at the Cultural Hall, Shamator District.
The programme began with an invocation by Thulunsori, Choir Director, Shamator Town Baptist Church (STBC). H Chuba Yimchunger, LDA, Department of Youth Resources & Sports delivered the welcome speech and brief on the main event of the programme.
The programme included competitions on Folk Song, Folk Dance and Declamation. The event provided an opportunity for young participants to showcase their talent, cultural heritage, creativity and public-speaking skills.
The programme concluded with the declaration of results and prize distribution where first prize was won by Christian High School and second by Shamator College in folk song, and in folk dance, first position was bagged by Government Higher Secondary School and second position was bagged by Christian High school. While in declamation, Sunso and Berimong both from Shamator college won first and second place respectively.
A vote of thanks was proposed by Imtikumba, LDA, Y&RS Tuensang and a benediction by Wati, Pastor, Ao Baptist Fellowship. Overall, the festival was a meaningful platform for promoting youth participation, cultural preservation, confidence and healthy competition among the youth of the district.
NOKLAK:
District level youth festival 2026 was held on September 14 at White Hall, Noklak Village under the theme ‘ Youth, Skill and a Self- Reliant Nagaland’.
During the festival, GHSS, Noklak begged the winner of Folk song competition while GHS Noklak village managed the second prize. In the folk dance, GHSS Noklak won the first position and TSU in the second position. St. Paul School, Noklak begged the winner in the declamation, while GHSS Noklak and TSU won the second position.
Altogether, participants from Government Higher Secondary School, Noklak; Government Higher School Noklak village; St. Paul School, Noklak; and Thang Students’ Union (TSU) took part in the competition. The winners of the competition will represent the district in the state level competition.
District Sports Officer, Tuensang, Athrong Yimchunger, while welcoming the gathering, encouraged the students to showcase their talent, creativity, confidence by embracing heritage through folk dance and songs. He also shed light on participating rather than winning and to learn from one’s mistake. He also said the spirit of the competition is in the ability to come forward and express to enjoy the spirit of healthy competition.
