FAC organises a farewell programme in honour of its retiring officer

Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung organised a farewell programme in honour of the Retiring Officer, Dr. Tsukjemchila Imchen, Associate Professor, HoD, Department of Geography at the college  conference hall on September 16.

The Retiring Officer was acknowledged for her dedication, commitment and contribution to Higher Education and the college in particular. She was the first lady officer in Nagaland appointed to the Department of Geography, the first lady in Nagaland to earn a Ph.D in Geography, and the first to retire from the Department after thirty three years of her active teaching profession.

On the occasion, Principal,  Dr I Wati Imchen mentioned her as the key pillar of the college, a person critical in approach and intelligent who provided both her time and resources for the upliftment of the college. The principal spoke on the need of capitalising the intellectual resources of Retiring Officers where they would continue to contribute to institutions and mould young minds, as a teachers role does not end with retirement.

Dr Temjensangla Pongener, Associate Professor and present Hod of the Department highlighted on how the Department of Geography saw important developments in its academic infrastructure during the tenure of Dr Tsukjemchila, she mentioned the expansion of the Department Library, strengthening of the Cartographic laboratory, development of the Remote Sensing Laboratory, and installation of the Mini Soil Laboratory which have enriched the learning resources of the Department providing students with the platform to move beyond textbooks and to be engaged in a more practical and experiential way.

The Retiring Officer was spoken of as a visionary leader who continues to share the vision of the Dept. and the college even after her retirement.

Naomi, Associate Professor, Department of Botany and the president of Fazl Ali College Teachers’ Association (FACTA) spoke on behalf of the Association mentioning her contributions towards FACTA , she also presented a certificate of acknowledgement to the Retiring Officer on behalf of the All Nagaland Government College Teachers Association (ANGCTA).

Y Yonkai Phom, Asst. General Secretary, Fazl Ali College Students’ Union (FACSU) also delivered a speech on behalf of the students community.

The Retiring Officer on the occasion stressed on the need of starting Post-Graduation Programs in the college which is a necessity to fulfil one of the most important goals of NEP 2020. She encouraged the faculty to not be deterred by obstacles but innovate with sustained commitment and zeal, and to look forward to a true multi-disciplinary approach to education.

The programme was chaired by Mesutoba Ao, Associate Professor & HoD, Department of History. A special number was presented by the students and Dr Imliwati Longkumer, Asst. Professor, Dept of Chemistry pronounced the prayer of blessing. The programme was attended by students, and the teaching and non-teaching faculty.
