The District Election Office, Zunheboto, organised a SVEEP Instrumental Guitar Contest at the DC Conference Hall, Zunheboto, on September 18 as part of voter-awareness initiatives under the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme.
The programme began with an invocation by Senior Head Assistant, M. Vitoho Sema and a welcome address delivered by Assistant Election Officer (AEO), Bisalee Thonger.
Delivering the keynote address, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer, Zunheboto, Dharam Raj, IAS, highlighted the importance of SVEEP as an initiative of the Election Commission of India aimed at promoting voter awareness and encouraging greater participation in the electoral process.
He stated that music can serve as an effective medium for communicating the message of clean, ethical and inclusive elections. He noted that people, particularly in Nagaland, have a strong appreciation for music and extracurricular activities, making creative platforms such as the guitar contest an effective means of reaching the public and spreading awareness about responsible voting.

Dharam Raj encouraged the participants to use their musical talents as ambassadors of voter awareness and carry the message of clean elections to their communities. He also appreciated the participants for their efforts and encouraged them to continue pursuing music and other creative activities.
A total of nine participants took part in the contest and showcased their musical skills and creativity through live instrumental guitar performances. The event aimed to connect youth participation and artistic expression with the broader objective of strengthening voter awareness and democratic participation.
Abunu emerged as the winner of the SVEEP Instrumental Guitar Contest.
The programme concluded with appreciation extended to all the participants, parents, organisers and officials for their support and cooperation. The organisers expressed hope that similar creative initiatives would be conducted in the future to engage young people in voter education and democratic participation.
The programme was chaired by LDA-cum-Computer Assistant, Hyunibu Aser Tep.
