The Chang Khulei Setshang (Chang Tribal Council), Chang Wedoshi Setshang (Chang Students’ Conference) and Changsao Thangjam Setshang (Chang Women Organisation) have strongly condemned the alleged attempted murder of Langshi Chang of Chendang Saddle Village, Tuensang district, and demanded strict legal action against the accused.

According to the three apex bodies, Langshi Chang was allegedly shot at by Medochiilie Riirhie of Chiechema Village, Kohima, on September 16, 2026.

Describing the incident as “shocking, reprehensible and completely unacceptable”, the organisations said Langshi, a breadwinner who had come to earn his livelihood, was put at grave risk by the shooting.

The three bodies demanded that law-enforcement agencies conduct a thorough investigation and book the accused under all relevant provisions of law, including the Arms Act, wherever applicable.

“There must be no compromise, undue leniency or attempt to dilute the gravity of the offence,” they said.

They further called for a speedy, fair and impartial investigation and early delivery of justice to the victim and his family. The authorities, they said, must ensure that the accused is brought to justice strictly in accordance with law and that the victim receives all necessary medical, legal and administrative assistance.

The organisations urged the competent authorities to treat the matter with utmost seriousness and urgency, warning that any delay in investigation or failure to take appropriate legal action could undermine public confidence in the rule of law.

The three Chang apex bodies said they stood united in solidarity with Langshi Chang and his family and would continue to monitor the matter closely.

They expressed hope that law-enforcement agencies would act decisively to ensure that justice was not delayed and that the victim received protection and assistance available to him under the law.
