The Ao Senden, Watsu Mungdang and Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) have given the School Education Department until the end of the 2026 academic year to take concrete and effective measures to address the shortage and unequal distribution of teachers, including subject teachers, in Mokokchung District.

In a joint response to the Department’s communication on the rationalisation and recruitment of teachers, Ao Senden president Marsen Imsong, Watsu Mungdang president Tianaro Jamir and Ao Kaketshir Mungdang president Lanulemba Longchar acknowledged the assurance that necessary steps were under process.

However, they said the shortage and unequal distribution of teachers, particularly subject teachers, continued to adversely affect students across the district.

Considering the urgency of the issue and the academic interests of students, the organisations said they would wait until the end of the academic year 2026 for the Department to implement necessary measures.

They urged the Government and School Education Department to ensure equitable distribution and adequate recruitment of teachers, including subject teachers, across Mokokchung District.

The three organisations warned that if concrete and effective action was not taken by the end of the academic year, they would be compelled to take “their own course of democratic action” in the larger interest of students and the education system in the district.
