A special programme for senior citizens was held on September 22 at Shamator Town Baptist Church. The programme was organised by the Shekinah Christian Foundation (SCF) in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare, Nagaland.
The programme began with a walkathon from Traffic Tower Junction to Shamator Town Baptist Church, with senior citizens and other participants joining the walk to promote healthy living and community participation.
Speaking on behalf of the District Administration, Mekato J. Aye, EAC Shamator, spoke on the importance of embracing “change” to ensure a better and longer life for citizens. He also emphasised the need to provide senior citizens with opportunities and spaces that promote a healthy mind and a healthy lifestyle.
District Programme Officer, Social Welfare, Renchano Odyuo highlighted various old-age schemes and programmes being implemented by the department in the district. She appealed to the senior citizens to make judicious and proper use of the assistance and benefits provided by the department.

Dr Ezra Anar, Dental Surgeon, CHC Shamator, spoke on healthy lifestyle habits and shared practical tips for maintaining good health and longevity. Referring to the health and longevity of Japanese citizens, he highlighted the importance of healthy eating habits and an active lifestyle and encouraged participants to adopt similar practices where possible.
The programme also featured fun and healthy games conducted by Lato, Youth Pastor, STBC, followed by an interactive session led by Pastor Wati, Ao Baptist Fellowship, Shamator Town. The activities provided an opportunity for senior citizens to participate. interact and enjoy the programme in a positive and engaging atmosphere. Expressing gratitude, Birila Tokiu, Managing Director, Shekinah Christian Foundation, conveyed profound words of appreciation to the Department of Social Welfare and to all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the programme.
The programme concluded with a benediction by Pastor Inavi Aye, Shamator Town Sumi Baptist Church.
